see18 short film space opens on C concourse

A first-of-its-kind in a North American airport, MSP Airport's new See18 Short Film Space at Terminal 1-Lindbergh is now open.

The film space, located adjacent to Gate C18, is part of the MSP Arts and Culture Program, which is managed by the Airport Foundation MSP and overseen by a committee made up of representatives from the Metropolitan Airports Commission staff and board, the Foundation's staff and board, and local arts and cultural entities.

“MSP’s Short Films Space gives us the opportunity to brand Minnesota to travelers, give back to the arts community by supporting Minnesota filmmakers, and make MSP an airport of choice,” says Robyne Robinson, director of arts and culture for the Airport Foundation MSP.

As the space was being designed and constructed, Robyne worked with the local film community - specifically Craig Laurence Rice and Jesse Bishop of the Film Society of Minneapolis/St. Paul - to curate a group of award-winning films created by Minnesota filmmakers.

Eight films are currently running in rotation with a combined length of approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. Each film ranges from three to 16 minutes in length.

All of the films are award-winning shorts and documentaries. In January, the best in arts programming from Minnesota’s nationally lauded public television station, TPT, will be added.

Travelers will also be treated to the captivating beauty and vitality of Minnesota through vignettes produced by the Explore Minnesota tourism agency.

And next year, look for live performances in the space once a portable stage is purchased and performances can be scheduled.
