Spirit Airlines Preparing to Move Jan. 27 to Terminal 1, E Concourse

This past fall the Metropolitan Airports Commission board paved the way for Spirit Airlines to make the move from Terminal 2-Humphrey to Terminal 1-Lindbergh.

On Tuesday, Jan. 27, Spirit will move to Terminal 1's E concourse, taking over gates E2 and E4 for its operation. Currently Spirit uses gate H6 at Terminal 2 for its ever-growing numbers of flights out of MSP. Moving to Terminal 1 will effectively double its capacity.

The move will benefit both Spirit and Sun Country, which has indicated it plans to add flights out of MSP and needs the extra space for its expanded operation. Over the past several years, the addition of Spirit, Southwest and Condor Airlines at Terminal 2, as well as Sun Country's phenomenal comeback from bankruptcy, has brought double-digit growth to that terminal. This move provides the MAC time to expand at Terminal 2 by three gates without continually inconveniencing the airlines and their customers.

The first Spirit flight at Terminal 1 is scheduled for5:26 a.m. Jan. 27, as flight number 612 arrives from Chicago. The first departure is flight 612 at 6:17 a.m., also to Chicago.

Customer communication began this week as digital and printed signage has gone up. News media engagement will begin mid-January.
