Fly magazine quickly soars to unexpected heights

With more than 12,500 views from 33 different countries, Fly – Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport’s (MSP) digital travel and lifestyle magazine – is becoming nearly as far-reaching as the airport itself.

Launched in May, the magazine captivates readers with eye-catching photography and provides both helpful and interesting information about food, fashion, style, culture and travel. MSP is the only airport in North America with this type of publication.

Fly articles range from reviews of in-airport restaurants to a pre-flight interview with Babes in Toyland drummer Lori Barbero – a story that resulted in more than 1,000 shares.

“The content all relates in some way to travel, MSP Airport, and life in Minnesota and beyond,” said Phoebe Larson, marketing strategist for the MAC. ”The magazine’s success has exceeded our expectations and not just in terms of the number of impressions it’s garnered.”

Larson and fellow team members developed the concept to market the airport's concessions program — a modern alternative to printed coupons. According to Larson, MSP’s concessionaires are excited about the concept, as well as the global attention it has received.

“The tenants have shown incredible enthusiasm for Fly,” said Larson. “It would not be possible without their support and ideas. Everyone here has a story, and we intend to capture them all throughout the years.”

As for future Fly posts, followers can look forward to travelers’ stories, more local celebrity interviews, and video in select articles.
