Access point restrictions coming

As a result of a directive from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) will be minimizing access points to reduce the risk of an insider threat.

In the future, justification for access to areas or doors may need to be provided to the Airport Police Department (APD) in order to maintain an access point. If it is determined that an access point does not meet an operational need, it may be restricted. Alternative entry points may be considered, if they meet a collective goal.

“We will communicate any changes along the way,” said APD Lieutenant Craig Olson. “Warning signs will be posted before a door is restricted.”

In addition to the access changes, the APD is also installing biometric readers at more checkpoints and increasing enforcement efforts to provide a safer environment for the MSP community and the traveling public.

Questions or concerns regarding these processes can be directed to Lieutenant Craig Olson at 612-467-0903.
