New North Security Checkpoint to open Feb. 16

The Terminal 1-Lindbergh ticketing lobby will look very different on Tuesday, Feb. 16, as the new North Security Checkpoint will be open for business.

With 10 lanes and more room for travelers to prepare for and recover from the screening process, the checkpoint will allow for a more efficient security experience. With these added efficiencies, wait times are anticipated to decrease.

The new checkpoint will be opened in phases beginning with four lanes on Feb. 16 and culminating with all 10 lanes becoming operational on Feb. 19. Once the North Security Checkpoint is completely open, three smaller checkpoints will close, and Checkpoint 6 will be renamed the South Security Checkpoint.

Employees can continue to use Checkpoint 3 until the morning of Feb. 19. Once Checkpoint 3 is closed late on Thursday, Feb. 18, employees can use employee lanes at both the north and south checkpoints.

In the future, projected wait times will also be displayed on large, mesh screens above the two checkpoints so that travelers can select the checkpoint with the shorter wait time. Data is currently being gathered for this purpose to ensure accurate estimates are displayed.
