Road construction, Blue Line LRT work impacts MSP employees

Travelers and MSP Airport employees are noticing road construction work that continues through May 20. The greatest impact is affecting those driving to or from Terminal 2 and adjacent areas.

MSP is informing travelers and workers about these projects and recommending that people plan for a little extra travel time to navigate the associated lane closures:

34th Avenue South: Metro Transit will be doing work along 34th Avenue South. Lane closures will primarily affect traffic heading out from Terminal 2 toward Interstate 494.

I-494 and Highway 5: The Minnesota Department of Transportation will be doing work along Interstate 494 near the interchange of Highway 5 and 494. This will impact 494 traffic heading west toward 34th Avenue South as well as traffic heading toward eastbound Highway 5.

Detour signage will indicate traffic patterns to follow during construction. For more information, visit the MnDOT project website.

Also, a METRO Blue Line closure will affect MSP travelers and employees for 10 days beginning this Friday, May 3.

Blue Line service will close for preventative maintenance from Fort Snelling to Mall of America in both directions beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, May 3 and ending at 3 a.m. on Monday, May 13.

The closure, however, will not impact service between MSP Airport’s Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, as that LRT service will remain active during through the full project.

Replacement bus service will be available at the affected stations. For more information, including station-specific bus boarding location maps and routing, visit Metro Transit’s project website.
