The MAC's DEI office to celebrate organizations supporting aviation

History reminds us of the struggle diverse populations endured to find professional pathways into many industries, including the aviation industry. Over the years, many people have followed their passion for aviation, despite obstacles, to fulfill their dreams and inspire communities to seek a career in aviation.

Among them are Félix Rigau Carrera, the first Latin fighter pilot in the United States Marines; Jessica Cox, the first armless pilot in aviation history; and John Herrington, the first Native American to walk in space. Many individuals reached their goals thanks to support and mentorship from nonprofits and organizations dedicated to ensuring everyone can pursue their dreams.

Accordingly, ODEI wants to celebrate organizations of the past and present that support aviation and focus on increasing diversity in the aviation industry by providing community support and knowledge. Throughout 2024, ODEI will provide more information about the following organizations:

·

Black History Month (February) – Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals

·

Women’s History Month (March) – Women in Aviation International

·

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May) – Professional Asian Pilots Association
